Here at BitPay we are always working to make bitcoin payments more user-friendly and widely known. That’s why we were happy to hear the news coming from our neighbor to the north. Deloitte, one of the world's leading consulting and professional services firms, recently began accepting bitcoin at Bistro 1858, the private restaurant inside their Toronto office in Canada.
Deloitte is using our Bitcoin Checkout app to accept payments for purchases made in the restaurant. The app lets customers pay for their meals with just one scan and click from a bitcoin wallet. In turn, the restaurant can choose to receive bank settlement for the funds they accept from bitcoin customers.
Deloitte chose to accept bitcoin in their Toronto location to give employees and visiting clients a first-hand experience of blockchain-based payments in the real world.
“By allowing individuals to buy and sell bitcoin with our BTM, and now to buy their lunch with bitcoin, we’re demonstrating that the blockchain experience for the front-end user is not all that complicated. What is important to realize, however, is that the back-end technology has fundamentally changed.”
We look forward to seeing how this small taste of the bitcoin payment experience inspires further innovation and bitcoin adoption with Deloitte and its clients around the world.
